It started in 2002 when I was 17 years old. I started teaching guitar when I was appointed as a guitar club teacher at school. A few months later I started opening Ivan Guitar Studio® guitar courses. At that time I started with only 3 students. 2 students are my high school friends, and another 1 is my next door neighbor.
Currently, Ivan Guitar Studio® is probably the only guitar teacher in Indonesia that has more than 100 students every month.
I handle all students exclusively alone in a private and semi-private class format (2 – 3 students per class) to guarantee that each student enjoys and gets the best service. My students come from all ages and professions. From the youngest (6 years old) to the oldest (56 years old).
Most of them have taken piano/guitar/violin lessons but are experiencing acute boredom because at every lesson they are only told to read musical notes and play classical songs without any variation at all. Or in many cases, some students have also studied guitar elsewhere, but the basic techniques tend to be completely wrong, so students become frustrated.
Through the teaching methods that I apply, these traumatic students have proven to really enjoy their experience of learning guitar. Many of them have remained at my school for more than 10 years (because they really enjoyed it), and several others have progressed to obtaining high-grade certifications at various music institutions.
Some of them have also developed into professional musicians, professional guitarists and guitar teachers spread across Jakarta.
These facts prove that the teaching method I apply is the most appropriate, most well received, and most enjoyable for all age groups.
